The disease hemolytic urmic syndrome (short form HUS, also known as Gasser syndrome) is characterized through the classical triad of:
  • acute renal failure
  • thrombocytopenia (low Platelets)
  • hemolytic anemia

Due to the underlying etiology and clinical course of the disease the hemolytic uremic syndrome can be divided into
  • typical HUS (HUS)
  • atypical HUS (aHUS)
